How do I get started on it?

Just click on the "Create a New Account" button. We recommend that you use a generic email address address such as info@myorganization.com.

If your organization has previously completed the GEM Assessment, we strongly recommend that you use the same administrator account. This will give you access to the previous GEM reports and allow you to run free Comparison Reports between any paid Full Reports.

If you can't find the administrator information for your organization, contact us at  contact@gemassessment.com  and we will provide those details.

Who normally participates in the GEM Assessment process?

The people to include are the leaders of your corporation, non-profit, or ministry as laid out in the organization's policies. We recommend that those who regularly sit around your board table and who are part of the decision-making process take part in the assessment. This includes all of your board members and the CEO, as an ex-officio board member.

I'm setting up the assessment; how do I also participate?

When you are at the "Add Participant" section, be sure to create an identity for yourself. You use the same email address but will have a separate username to be a participant. Think of it like wearing two hats. Under one hat, you are the administrator; under the other, a participant.

Is it really free?

Yes, there is a Free Report. It is a one page, colour summary that quickly highlights your board's performance in each facet of the GEM Model. (Click here to learn more about the 7 disciplines of the GEM.)

The Full Report costs $500. This 25-page report highlights your strengths, weaknesses, and areas of key differences and displays the results for each question. We also include tips and suggestions to help you debrief the report.

Want the best return? Ask a STRIVE! consultant to help your board make this process one of change and growth!

Do we need to have a consultant debrief the report?

Our goal in creating the GEM Assessment program is to give you the tools you need to develop action plans. Both the full and free reports include debrief guides to help your board discern next steps. Inviting a third-party facilitator to debrief your report will give your board the highest return on investment. Our consultants have been assessing boards and developing governance principles for over twenty years. Their insights and experience will allow your board to dig deeper and develop action steps for governance excellence. We recommend pairing the GEM Assessment debrief with an annual policy review, strategic plan analysis, or risk assessment for a full day of governance training

I'm overwhelmed! What do I do?

Who you gonna call? Certainly not the Ghostbusters, even though computer gremlins can get to us all! Just send us an email at contact@gemassessment.com.

My participants are having problems logging in!

We've experienced that various email programs modify the content of the welcome letter. Ask them to try these steps::

  1. Open a web browser (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, Safari).
  2. Type in https://www.gemassessment.com (note the ‘s’ in ‘https’) as the address. If a security alert appears, , it could be because their company settings have workplace limits in place. Alternatively, since we have an embedded link to a YouTube video, this may cause a security warning. In these cases, it is safe to click Okay.
  3. Click on Sign In, found on the right side of the screen.
  4. Enter the Username and Password found in the most recent email received. To maintain high security standards, the password is regenerated with each mailing.
  5. Click Login.

If this doesn't work, contact our office. We're happy to help!

My participants aren't getting their welcome letter!

Two suggestions. Ask them to check their Junk Mail folder. Perhaps they have high security settings that are preventing the message from reaching their Inbox. Or, sign in as the administrator and double-check that their email address is correct. Then resend them a new welcome letter. To maintain high security standards, the password is regenerated with each mailing. The participant will need to use the most recent email to access the assessment. If this doesn't work, contact our office. We're happy to help!

Why do I need to create an Administrator account?

Confidentiality. The GEM Assessment program is customized, by you, to reflect the terminology of your corporate, non-profit or ministry-based organization. The information you provide is only used for the administration and support of the GEM Assessment program.

I completed the Assessment but my administrator says that I haven't.

Ah—we understand your frustration. You will likely need to retake the assessment. Before you do, keep these tips in mind. If at all possible, take the assessment on a desktop computer or a laptop computer. Some playbooks have difficulty registering web-based programs. Also, try to work through the assessment without any interruptions. Be sure to click “Complete the Assessment” when finished.

If this doesn't work, contact our office. We're happy to help!

I'm no longer on this board:

This is an assessment of the board's performance for the previous year. If you've been asked to participate, contact the person who sent you the Welcome Letter to verify your involvement. If you prefer to be removed, you may contact either the administrator or our office to be removed from this board’s assessment.

I can't find my Sign In information!

Your username and password are located on your Welcome Letter. If you cannot find your invitation, double-check your Junk Mail folder or ask your administrator to resend your invitation. To maintain high security standards, the password is regenerated with each mailing. Please use the most recent email to access the assessment.

If this doesn't work, contact our office. We're happy to help!

Can I reset my password?

Yes, you certainly can! Once you sign in, you may change your password by editing your profile. Please take note that, because the GEM Assessment maintains high security standards, the password is regenerated with each mailing. If you receive another message from the program, then your password will be reset to whatever is included in the most recent email.
